Holidays at Pemberley Review at Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell

Sometimes the comments on blog reviews are highly enlightening. The comments on this post were very surprising. Particularly, several people mentioned they found the cover creepy. When I first found the image used for the cover, it was like Charlotte Lucas was staring back at me. I immediately decided it was perfect for this book, right down to the holly surrounding her. I may have a skewed view of what constitutes creepy (I have a sister who specializes in very "creepy" art, much of which adorns my walls - if there isn't a skeleton or fetus involved, I tend to think am image is perfectly idyllic), so I'm asking you, my dear followers: what do you think of the cover? If you find it creepy, I would love an explanation. There is much to be learned from such feedback.

    I guess it could be creepy if you look at it being like doll's face. But I've seen this cover several times and never once thought it was creepy. I think it fits the holiday theme and the time period. I wouldn't have thought it represented Charlotte Lucas, though, since it does look like a child...but I also haven't read it, so what do I know?

      Thank you so much for helping me understand this one! Yes, she is definitely doll faced, but I never thought it looked like a child until reading a different review earlier today. I guess I see it now, and as the prologue to the book does portray a five year old Charlotte, I'll just work on convincing myself that was my intention all along. Your feedback is priceless - thanks again!

      You're very welcome! I still think it works, especially if Charlotte is portrayed as a child at the beginning.

      Thanks! I still feel rather blind. I thought she looked a bit young for the character, but never like a child! I'm going to have to vet my future covers more carefully.

    About the cover, I did not see it as creepy either before people started mentioning it, then I saw it. And yes then it looked a bit creepy like she was going all Chucky over me

      My husband said the exact same thing! :)

      I can see it now too, but I still like the cover. It's actually my favorite of them all. Hope it doesn't creep too many people out!
