Tales of Less Pride and Prejudice at More Agreeably Engaged!

I wish I had gotten this post up on Wednesday as intended, but I just returned him from visiting my in-laws with my daughter and was never able to finagle the computer time. This is also the reason the third chapter of Being Mrs. Bennet did not post on Monday, though I did write it longhand on the plane (I made the questionable choice of traveling without my laptop, thinking its absence would make security with a two year old less of an ordeal). Look for it next week when my heroine, Alison Bateman (in the guise of Mrs. Bennet) begins trying to rein in Lydia's behavior.

My Tales of Less Pride and Prejudice were featured in a spree of wonderful reviews at More Agreeably Engaged this week! All three books are up for giveaway, plus each post features an excerpt from The Madness of Mr. Darcy! It has been ablest reading the responses to my work in progress. In fact, I'm considering sharing most, or maybe even all, of the work prior to publication. More on that to come.

Please do check the great reviews and tantalizing (I think) excerpts. Thanks Janet!

After the fast, the feast: Great New Reviews!

Just when you feel your books have disappeared from the collective consciousness, a sudden burst of good reviews spurt forth and quench the thirst for feedback. I really should have put up this post last week (where did the last two weeks slip away - this is supposed to be the low key time of year!) when a review of First Impressions first appeared on Indie Jane, a wonderful website dedicated to the promotion of independently published austenesque. Yet it took a foot of snow to get me to sit in front of the computer and focus long enough to write it! So be it. There was a giveaway, which is unfortunately now over, but there is some solace to be found! A review of Second Glances is now posted, including a giveaway of that novel. Do check out both reviews at the links below!

First Impressions also received some attention from Jody of the aptly named blob, A Spoonful of Happy Endings. My kind of place, right down to the Mary Poppins silhouette! There is a beautiful review and also an interview, so please check it out and leave your thoughts.

I have posts I already intended to write but have yet to get to, sitting in the backlog of my brain. I picked up a new project this year and I'm still getting used to managing the additional constraint on my time. I trust I will adapt, and blogging will proceed at normal intervals, rather than fits and starts. Maybe I'll pound out a long overdue review tomorrow, when I'm sure to still be snowed in. Maybe 14 inches! That's the most we've ever had in this house. Kind of exciting, but I wish we weren't still waiting to repair the leaky roof. Fingers crossed on that one. Happy and safe nor'easter everyone!

A Triade of Reviews!

I have a full sweep of reviews to share with you this beautiful, snowy morning! It's going to be a great day - the elves left supplies for snowy day art activities over night, which should keep Eliza busy while the great bake off begins. I have twelve pounds of pecans in need of spicing, and at least six kinds of cookies to make. What a glorious prospect for a cold winter day!

Might receiving three fabulous reviews have anything to do with my high spirits? Absolutely. Let's start at the very beginning ...

First Impressions: A Tale of Less Pride and Prejudice received a four star review yesterday from Anna at Diary of an Eccentric. She plans to review the next two books over the course of the weeks, so stay alert for those. I'm so thrilled to have my books featured in this way by a reviewer I have come to greatly respect. Please visit her lovely blog:

Second Glances: A Tale of Less Pride and Prejudice was enthusiastically Laughing with Lizzy over the weekend. This came on the heels of her review of First Impressions. which she also approved. Check it out here:

Holidays at Pemberley, or Third Encounters: A Tale of Less Pride and Prejudice Concludes was well received yesterday at Kimberley's Book Life. "A wonderful addition to my Austen collection," she says. Please visit and enjoy this new blog!

Great Reviews!

Two of my books received thumbs up reviews at three different blogs last week! I am greatly remiss in not posting this sooner.

Sophia Rose at Delighted Reader gave Holidays at Pemberley: A Tale of Less Pride and Prejudice Concludes a four star rating! I feel really bad about this one, as Sophia has always been so gracious in her reviews, and I completely failed to tell anyone about the giveaway she offered of the book, which is now closed. So sorry! Anyway, you can read her review at: http://delightedreader.com/yours-affectionately-holidays-at-pemberley-by-alexa-adams/

Meredith of Austenesque Reviews posted her thoughts on Holidays at Pemberley: A Tale of Less Pride and Prejudice Concludes last Friday. She and I started blogging around the same time, and we have long noticed a similarity in taste between us, so her approval of my novels always means a great deal to me, let alone the fact she has become quite a force in the promotion of the Austenesque genre! Read her review and enter to win a copy of the new book here (this one is still open - one day left!): http://austenesquereviews.com/2013/11/holidays-at-pemberley-alexa-adams.html#comments.

Last a new acquaintance: Mrs. Darcy at Laughing with Lizzie has enthusiastically embraced my stories - well, at least the one she has read so far! She posted her review of First Impressions: A Tale of Less Pride and Prejudice last Saturday. I look forward to reading her opinion of the next two and hope they are as favorable. Read her very gratifying review here: http://laughingwithlizzie.blogspot.com/2013/11/first-impressions-by-alexa-adams_30.html.

Lovely Reviews!

In midst of Twisted Austen madness, I received some rather gratifying reviews. First, the one I missed: Anna at Diary of an Eccentric wrote the ONLY proper Emma and Elton: Something Truly Horrid review the story has received. I learned of the post right when Jane and Bingley started posting, so though I was late to the game, the timing probably was perfect. Read it here: http://diaryofaneccentric.wordpress.com/2013/09/13/review-emma-elton-something-truly-horrid-by-alexa-adams/

Also super exciting was stumbling upon Warmisunqu's Austen review of the ENTIRE Tales of Less Pride and Prejudice series. This is the first time I've read reviews of all three books as a trilogy, which was very exciting! Read the review of First Impressions here: http://warmisunquausten.blogspot.com/2013/10/libro-01-first-impressions.html

Second Glances here: http://warmisunquausten.blogspot.com/2013/10/libros-2-second-glances.html

Wonderful First Impressions Review at Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell

I would have liked to post this yesterday when I first came across it, but as I was en route to New York City at the time (where I saw a phenomenal production of Driving Miss Daisy staring Vanessa Redgrave and Jane Earl Jones), and had not brought my computer along for the trip, I was unable to act on the desire until today. Blodeuedd of Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell posted a really fabulous review of First Impressions (read it here). Please do check it out. I needed a morale boost this week - how wonderful when the world supplies just what we most require!

Read my interview with Kelly Yanke Deltener, the Jane Austen Squel Examiner

After reviewing First Impressions: A Tale of Less Pride and Prejudice two weeks ago week (read it here), Ms. Deltener requested an interview which I was, of course, ecstatic to grant. Please check out her question and my answers over at Examiner.com. Interviews have a remarkable way of teaching the interviewee more about themselves, and Ms. Deltener's thought provoking questions were no exception. Enjoy!

Wonderful First Impressions Review at Citivolus Sus

If you have yet to discover the lovely blog Citivolus Sus (if I am not mistaken, that means something like Flying Pig - really drudges up those memories of Latin class), I suggest you take a browse. Jj writes about Austen, Heyer, food, drink, and all those other things that make life so meaningful. Yesterday she posted a fabulous (and funny) review of First Impressions. I am so pleased she enjoyed it and hope everyone will go take a peak. Jj seems to have the uncanny ability to focus in on some of my very favorite lines from the book. Enjoy!

Fabulous Review of First Impressions at Austenesque Reviews!

Meredith of Austenesque Reviews has written the most amazing review of First Impressions: A Tale of Less Pride and Prejudice. She says, "Ms. Adams has a beautiful command of language and successfully captures Jane Austen's satirical tone in her writing." No words could coax a sillier grin to my face. Austenesque Reviews is a blog totally dedicated to JAFF reviews, and I frequently wait for Meredith's opinion before buying a book I'm unsure of, as I find her taste very similar to mine, and her reviews are detailed and insightful. It is one of my favorite Austen blogs, and if you have never visited before, please read the First Impressions review and browse around Austenesque Reviews for a while. It is a wonderful resource. Thanks Meredith!

A Fabulous Review of First Impressions at A Whole Book World

CaRiiToO of A Whole Book World has posted a glowing review of First Impressions: A Tale of Less Pride and Prejudice! I can't properly describe the surge of happiness that courses through me each time I read that someone loved the book, but it is such a glowing, contented sensation that I refuse to believe that anyone could have derived similar joy just from my scribblings. Knowing that I have touched just the one or two people who have told me how much they loved the book makes all the effort worthwhile, and makes me anxious to pick back up my pen! After the move ...

Giveaway! First Impressions and Pemberley Manor

Today on offer is yet another signed copy of First Impressions as well as a new copy of Pemberley Manor by Kathryn Nelson, which I accidentally purchased a second time when Sourcebooks rereleased it last year. I read this book well before I began blogging so I cannot point you to my review. What I remember feeling after reading it was that modern psychology had been highly imposed on the narrative, though I still enjoyed it. Here is the book description from Amazon:

How does "happily ever after" really work?

With such different personalities, Darcy and Elizabeth surely need to work on their communication skills! Unlike Jane and Bingley, both of whom are easygoing and friendly, the Darcys are definitely a case where opposites attract.

Through their dramatic courtship, Lizzy finally saw through Darcy's rigid pride and sense of duty, and Darcy fell in love with Lizzy's sunny optimism and independence of spirit. Now that they're married, what will happen when their fundamentally different personalities reassert themselves? Uncover the true feelings of one of the world's most famous couples during their first year of marriage.

So, for a chance to win this sequel and spend some time with Lizzy and Darcy in therapy or, alternatively, to win a copy of my extremely happy-go-lucky tale, totally devoid of angst, please respond to the following challenge:

Earlier this week, Maria Grazia posted a lovely review of First Impressions on her blog, My Jane Austen Book Club, introduced by a line from my book: "Happiness is in abundance at Longbourn." I wish I had thought of putting this line on the book somewhere as it is highly representative of the story. For your chance to win, please guess who is being quoted and, for a second entry, who they are speaking to. Here's your hint: the speaker is female while the listener is male. That should be vague enough to illicit a large variety of responses!

If you would like a third entry, please help spread the word about this giveaway, either through posting about it or on twitter, and let me know that you did so in your comment. Please do not forget to include your email addresses. Comments must be received before 12:00 AM EST, Wednesday, April, 30th. Good luck!

A Beautiful Review!

Those of you who are writers know how wonderful it feels when someone is touched by your work, especially when that someone is a person whose opinion you highly regard. I just read the first blog review of First Impressions, posted by Maria Grazia on her blog, My Jane Austen Book Club, and am positively jubilant.
